day to night

everyday eyes video

target.

I hate to deliver bad news to you all, but as an activist and a member of a democratic society, I feel it is my obligation to inform you of unjust practices conducted by cooperation. It has been brought to my knowledge that Target, one of my favorite stores, is a strong supporter of anti-gay propaganda. Since I was made aware of this about a month ago, I have not spent a single penny there. I have also made the decision not to promote any of their products. It is your choice whether or not to act on this as well, but here's a little fun, educational video anyhow.

face routine.

Since my last video was so long, and quite annoying to read, I went back and redid the same look while talking you through each step. Like I said before, these first few aren't all that great, but I'm working on it and each video should get better each time I go through.

If you ever have suggestions on how to improve my videos, I am open to the constructive criticism!

Sorry folks! As you can see in the below comment, I made a mistake in labeling my fingers! For some reason, I've always referred to my ring finger as my index finger. I guess I just think it's a bit presumptuous to assume that a ring will be on that finger. There should be another name for it. Anyhow, when I say index finger, I mean ring finger. You catch my drift. ;-)

i love clothing sales!

I don't know about you, but I almost love clothes as much as I love makeup. But what I love even more than both is saving some cash! I highly recommend signing up for the email list of your favorite clothing and makeup stores, they will send you notifications about sales, special offers, and new products as frequently as you'd like.

I know Old Navy isn't the first store most people choose to shop at, but it's absolutely fabulous for buying basics. I can't get enough of their cardigans! They even have some adorable shoes! Here's a great deal for online orders and even includes free shipping! Enjoy!

va-va-voluminous lashes!

For my new followers who may not be aware, in the middle of July I purchased and began using Revlon's Grow Luscious Lashes. The Mascara claims to work with your lash's natural cycle to lengthen and strengthen them. Well, I've been using it for about two months now, and I've gotta say, I am in LOVE! I have never been as completely pleased with a mascara as I am with this one. Not only has it kept it's promise, but it wears better than anything else I've ever tried; it's light, doesn't give you "spider" lashes, doesn't flake, it's basically a miracle! I've even been asked if my lashes were fake!

I know the before pictures aren't very clear, but hopefully you can get an idea in the difference this mascara has made. I am not wearing any makeup up whatsoever in either picture. Also, if you'd like to read my original post, click here!

wordle?

For those of you who don't know, I am currently in a teaching credential program, so my classes are all focused towards specific subject areas. Anyhow, my art professor showed us this site called Wordle. You can either submit text or a blog URL and the site creates an image based on the frequency of words; the more frequent a word is used, the large it appears. So, I decided to try it out with broke&beautiful!

**WARNING** To save your Wordle, you have to download a PDF converter like this one. Then to save click on the "print" button, check the box on the security warning and click ok, finally, when the printer screen pops up, change the printer to "PDF Converter" and click "print".

Ok folks, here it is. Drum roll please?

dragon's breath.

MissChievous Myth and Legend Contest Entry

Good morrow me lords and ladies, today I bring'th you a fine makeup look inspired by the breath of the most devilish of creatures: the DRAGON! Ok, so writing this way was hard enough, enough of the medieval speak and back to business. MissChievous, one of my favorite youtube makeup gurus, is holding a contest and I have decided to enter. This is my FIRST contest on youtube submitting a look. It's not one of my best, and I don't expect to win, but why not, right? So, she basically asked people to create a look to the theme "myth and legend", but if you want to know the full contest rules, look here for her blog post or here for her video post. Anyhow, don't make fun of me, this is SOOOO out of my realm, I hope you kinda sorta like it even just a little.

my inspiration

how to get this look

step one:
prime eye from lash line to beneath eye brows, past the
outer corner of eye about 1 inch, and along lower lash line.
step two:
cover the inner corner and inner half of lid (below crease) with
NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. pat with finger to soften and blend.
step three:
from the inner to outer corner, color should increase in darkness and intensity
starting with a bright white, to a light yellow, followed by a light orange,
and finally a medium orange. to make a smooth gradient, first pat shadows
onto lid in even sections. then pat and blend seems with a clean flat brush.
step four:
with a large angled brush, apply an even darker orange than previously used
into the crease. please the brush, holding it vertically, in crease at the inner
most part, now drag the brush to the outer corner.
step five:
reapply the same shadow onto brush and place brush in the middle of the
crease. your brush should be laying flat on your skin with the handle point
upwards and the longer end pointing inwards. drag the brush along crease
line, turning the brush upward as you approach the outer corner. finally, pull
the brush straight out to make the exaggerated cat eye. *you want this color to
be deep and opaque, so reapply shadow to brush as frequently as necessary.
step six:
with the same angled brush you just used to apply the orange to the crease,
draw a line of red from the middle of your lower lash line to the same point
as the orange cat eye. make sure there is space between the orange and red,
which will happen naturally if both the orange and red extend horizontally straight.
step seven:
fill in space between the red and orange shadow with a white eyeliner.
pat with finger to soften, but make sure it does not blend into either shadow.
step eight:
with either a flat brush or large angled brush, apply a bright white over liner.
step nine:
line upper lash line with a black liquid liner. extend liner past corner, following
the line between the white and orange. make a second line between the white and red.
step ten:
fill water line with either a black or navy blue pencil.
step eleven:
cover liquid liner with an iridescent glitter liner.
step twelve:
mascara, or false lashes, and done!

Wow, I think those were the most difficult instructions to write, and I know they are nowhere near perfect! I also chose not to include swatches of the shadows I used because the specific colors are unimportant as long as you have the right variety of shades. If you have ANY questions, please don't hesitate to ask in a comment or email brokeandbeautifulblog@yahoo.com

simple&easy

This look is absolutely perfect for everyday, but can also be bumped up for night time wear by simply darkening the crease or adding a colored liner. It is also very versatile within its day time look. Depending on your personal preference, you can make this look at light or dark as you desire; use this tutorial as a general guideline of where to place each shadow.

..................................lightest
-...................inner corner
..................................darkest -.................. outer corner
.............................................................................crease
..................................medium/light -.......lid
..................................natural/skin tone - brow bone
..................................highlight -................inner corner
..............................................................................highest point beneath eyebrow

how to get this look

step one:
Prime entire eyelid.
step two:
Line the upper lash line from inner to outer corner with
NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. Pat line with finger to soften.
step three:
Using an overall shadow or blending brush, apply a light cream
tone over the line of Milk, and blend it upwards into the crease.
Make sure this color does not go much past the crease, if at all.
step four:
Apply a very light brown to the crease with a rounded crease brush.
Make sure to completely blend the shadow into the light cream on
your lid. I also highly suggest bringing this color onto the outer lash line.
step four:
With a small shadow or smudger brush, apply a line
of chocolate brown into the deepest part of your
crease 2/3 of the way into your eye from the outer corner.
step five:
Buff out this line of chocolate brown with either a fluffy brush or
rounded crease brush. Make sure to keep this shadow within
the crease area. It should not cover or pass the light brown you
previously applied to the crease.
step six:
(optional)
Line upper lash line thinly with a dark brown.
step seven:
Mascara and done!

That's all for now. Stay beautiful!
