dragon's breath.

MissChievous Myth and Legend Contest Entry

Good morrow me lords and ladies, today I bring'th you a fine makeup look inspired by the breath of the most devilish of creatures: the DRAGON! Ok, so writing this way was hard enough, enough of the medieval speak and back to business. MissChievous, one of my favorite youtube makeup gurus, is holding a contest and I have decided to enter. This is my FIRST contest on youtube submitting a look. It's not one of my best, and I don't expect to win, but why not, right? So, she basically asked people to create a look to the theme "myth and legend", but if you want to know the full contest rules, look here for her blog post or here for her video post. Anyhow, don't make fun of me, this is SOOOO out of my realm, I hope you kinda sorta like it even just a little.

how to get this look

step one:
prime eye from lash line to beneath eye brows, past the
outer corner of eye about 1 inch, and along lower lash line.
step two:
cover the inner corner and inner half of lid (below crease) with
NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. pat with finger to soften and blend.
step three:
from the inner to outer corner, color should increase in darkness and intensity
starting with a bright white, to a light yellow, followed by a light orange,
and finally a medium orange. to make a smooth gradient, first pat shadows
onto lid in even sections. then pat and blend seems with a clean flat brush.
step four:
with a large angled brush, apply an even darker orange than previously used
into the crease. please the brush, holding it vertically, in crease at the inner
most part, now drag the brush to the outer corner.
step five:
reapply the same shadow onto brush and place brush in the middle of the
crease. your brush should be laying flat on your skin with the handle point
upwards and the longer end pointing inwards. drag the brush along crease
line, turning the brush upward as you approach the outer corner. finally, pull
the brush straight out to make the exaggerated cat eye. *you want this color to
be deep and opaque, so reapply shadow to brush as frequently as necessary.
step six:
with the same angled brush you just used to apply the orange to the crease,
draw a line of red from the middle of your lower lash line to the same point
as the orange cat eye. make sure there is space between the orange and red,
which will happen naturally if both the orange and red extend horizontally straight.
step seven:
fill in space between the red and orange shadow with a white eyeliner.
pat with finger to soften, but make sure it does not blend into either shadow.
step eight:
with either a flat brush or large angled brush, apply a bright white over liner.
step nine:
line upper lash line with a black liquid liner. extend liner past corner, following
the line between the white and orange. make a second line between the white and red.
step ten:
fill water line with either a black or navy blue pencil.
step eleven:
cover liquid liner with an iridescent glitter liner.
step twelve:
mascara, or false lashes, and done!

Wow, I think those were the most difficult instructions to write, and I know they are nowhere near perfect! I also chose not to include swatches of the shadows I used because the specific colors are unimportant as long as you have the right variety of shades. If you have ANY questions, please don't hesitate to ask in a comment or email brokeandbeautifulblog@yahoo.com

That's all for now. Stay beautiful!

simple&easy

This look is absolutely perfect for everyday, but can also be bumped up for night time wear by simply darkening the crease or adding a colored liner. It is also very versatile within its day time look. Depending on your personal preference, you can make this look at light or dark as you desire; use this tutorial as a general guideline of where to place each shadow.

..................................lightest
-...................inner corner
..................................darkest -.................. outer corner
.............................................................................crease
..................................medium/light -.......lid
..................................natural/skin tone - brow bone

how to get this look

step one:
Prime entire eyelid.
step two:
Line the upper lash line from inner to outer corner with
NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. Pat line with finger to soften.
step three:
Using an overall shadow or blending brush, apply a light cream
tone over the line of Milk, and blend it upwards into the crease.
Make sure this color does not go much past the crease, if at all.
step four:
Apply a very light brown to the crease with a rounded crease brush.
Make sure to completely blend the shadow into the light cream on
your lid. I also highly suggest bringing this color onto the outer lash line.
step four:
With a small shadow or smudger brush, apply a line
of chocolate brown into the deepest part of your
crease 2/3 of the way into your eye from the outer corner.
step five:
Buff out this line of chocolate brown with either a fluffy brush or
rounded crease brush. Make sure to keep this shadow within
the crease area. It should not cover or pass the light brown you
previously applied to the crease.
step six:
(optional)
Line upper lash line thinly with a dark brown.
step seven:
Mascara and done!

satin eyes

how to get this look

step one:
load a medium amount of brown gel liner onto a flat brush.
lay the brush flat against lid with the end pointed up
and the bristles pressed along the lash line.
starting at the outside corner, press brush onto lid and
wiggle upwards, half way to crease.
do this until lash line is covered. this will look messy,
but no need to worry, yet!
step two:
use middle or ring finger to blend liner towards
your crease, even out pigment, and soften edges.
still, don't worry about perfection, we'll get there!
step three:
**this next step can be done with either a flat or fluffy brush.**
first use a clean brush to blend out the liner even more.
the more you blend, the lighter the look will be.
step four:
in a circular buffing motion, apply a plummy brown
with a rounded crease brush to the edges of the gel liner along
the outside of your eye and halfway along the lash line.
many people refer to this as making a "c" or "v" in your outer corner.
step five:
take any lighter, more shimmery shadow (I blended
the second and third color below) and apply it to the inner corner.
make sure to blend the shadow slightly along your
lower lash line, into crease, and onto lid.
do not apply additional shadow to brush or the
gradation from the outside to inside lid will be too extreme.
**use your makeup wedge to clean up any messy ages**
step six:
with a fluffy brush, apply a shadow similar to your skin along the outer
edges of the look including just beneath brow and beneath the eye.
step seven:
mascara and done!

passionate purple!

......
*Colors in this tutorial are trivial. They simply need to be of the same color, different shades,
and same finish. I will simply describe the technique to achieve a similar look.

[how to get this look]

step one:
Prime entire lid with Too Face Shadow Insurance.
Fill the center third of of lid to crease to the
NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk. Soften with finger.
step two:
Cover NYX Milk with a light matte purple using a flat brush.
step three:
With a short shadow brush or round crease brush, apply
a matte purple darker than the previous on both sides
of the light purple. Without adding any more color to brush,
use a windshield wiper motion to blend color into crease.
step four:
Still using the same brush, lightly pat and blend edges
between the two purples to get rid of the harsh line.
step five:
Again using the same brush, pick up a small amount of a
pearly white with a light gold duo chrome (purple and
gold go very well together). Blend this white around
entire outer edge of shadow and below eye.
step six:
Tight line upper lash line and water line
with a black soft eye pencil.
step seven:
Mascara and done!

bright blue skeyes.

step one:
Prime eyelid up the the crease with NYX jumbo
eye pencil in Milk. Soften and blend with finger.
step three:
Saturate eyelid, without going into the crease,
with a light matte turquoise.
step four:
With a short smudge brush, apply a darker matte turquoise in a large
"c" shape around outter crease and slightly onto the lower lash line.
Drag color along crease to the inner corner. Shadow should be lighter
at the inner most part of eyelid.
step five:
Line upper lash line with a black soft eyeliner pencil.
step six:
Mascara and done!

gorgeous green gal

[how to get this look]

step one:
Prime entire eye with NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk.
Blend and soften with finger.
step two:
With a short shadow brush, apply a soft black into the outer crease
making a small "c" shape and slightly onto the lower lash line. Don't apply
too much black. You can also add more over the green for a more intense
look. Now, with a clean blending brush, buff out the harsh lines and drag
the black shadow just below the crease and along the lash line.
step three:
Using a round crease brush, apply a satin, dark emerald
into the crease. Blend this color past the black into the
inner corner, just above the crease, and slightly onto the lid.
With a clean blending brush, soften any harsh edges.
step four:
Very lightly dampen one side of an overall shadow or flat brush
and pick up a light mint green shadow. Starting at the lash line,
place the color on the lid and drag upward. Before the mint green
reaches the emerald green, flip over the brush and lightly blend
the colors together in a quick, small back and forth motion.
step five:
Draw a line of NYX Milk on the inner corner, slightly
into the crease, a bit on the inner, lower lash line,
and just beneath the brow. Soften and blend with finger.
step six:
Blend the light mint green on top of the NYX Milk in the inner
corner and across entire lower lash line into black.
step seven:
Tight line upper lash line and water line with a black soft
pencil eyeliner.
step eight:
Mascara and done!

make lemonade

[how to get this look]

step one:
Prime lid with NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk.
step two:
Saturate entire lid with a satin bright yellow.
Make sure this color does not go into the crease.
step three:
With a round crease brush, apply a shimmery medium
yellow all the way around the eye: crease, inner corner,
and beneath eye. Concentrate color to crease. This may
take quite a few layers depending on the shadow's intensity.
step six:
Lightly lay a buttery yellow shadow over the
bright yellow to help coheir the shadows.
step seven:
Almost any style of liner will work for this look. Here I chose
to do a short cat eye with liquid liner, then soften it by
laying a soft play on top and slightly above the liquid liner.
step eight:
Mascara and done!
